Royal Academy Online Life drawing Session
The model a lovely little Welsh Pony called Romeo.
The poses were only five minutes long, and Romeo, being a live pony, did need to move around a bit. I don’t think he had really grasped the idea of looking at a fixed point and keeping still, which is the usual requirement for life models!
I have to admit to visions of a pony being brought into elegant Burlington House, might result in something like that famous scene from Blue Peter, with the baby elephant, but Romeo was very well mannered while he was on camera.
I managed three very rough pencil sketches while he was actually posing –

I have cheated and photographed the screen so I can tidy them up and perhaps add a little pastel pencil. I won’t be able to do a lot as it is just cartridge paper, and won’t stand much blending.

So here are the finished drawings, using a Paynes Grey pastel pencil and a white soft pastel. I think he looks rather handsome. I hope the RA do another live project – this one was fun.
They do have some human models online too, though the poses look rather difficult. I will have a go.
